Math Madness

Most recently we've been discussing a line of symmetry,
 2-D and 3-D shapes, and arrays.

A line of symmetry is a line that divides a figure into
two equal (congruent) halves. It is a mirror image.
  1.
  2.                      A  figure can have more than
  3.                          one line of symmetry.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 2-Dimensional Shapes
(including polygons)
Having the dimensions of height and width only.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
3-Dimensional Shapes
or Geometric Solids

Having the dimensions of height, width, and depth.
Vocabulary:  edges, vertices, faces
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Array
A rectangular arrangement of objects in rows and columns.
This is the foundation for multiplication.
This is a 2 by 6 array.
You can read it as:
2 groups of 6
2 rows of 6
2 multiplied by 6
2 times 6
2 by 6
The multiplication number model would be:
2 X 6 = 12
The addition number model would be:
6 + 6 = 12
We are beginning to use arrays to help us
solve multiplication story problems.
Valentine's Day Party
Our class Valentine's Day Party will be on Thursday,
February 14th at 2:00.  This party is mostly about passing out valentines, having a few snacks,
and opening their valentines.
If you'd like to help out by sending in a snack or treat for all to share at the party, please email us.  We usually do a fruit and veggie plate with a few other goodies. We are flexible.
Just let us know. :)
A few more things...the Student Valentine List will be coming home in their homework folder this Monday.
If your student has a February birthday, we will be doing our birthday celebration this Friday, February 1st for all February birthdays. One parent has already volunteered to send in cupcakes. If you have any questions please email us
or send in a note.
We know it may seem like we should have plenty of books for the used book sale, but it takes a large amount to raise enough money to adopt an animal without asking for donations. Any books that are not sold at our sale will be donated to a literacy program in WCSD. Thanks again!
MORE USED BOOKS NEEDED
Our used book sale to adopt an animal at
Animal Ark is quickly approaching.  A few students
have brought in their used books to help raise money
but we do not have enough books
at this time to hold a book sale.
Please help this worthy cause and send in your
used books as soon as possible.
Thank you!
