Jog-a-thon this Friday!

Our school wide Jog-a-Thon is this Friday!  Please make sure to return your donation envelopes to school by Thursday.  Please have your child wear comfortable running shoes and clothes that day.  We will be heading out to jog at 10:30.  Any parents who are willing to join us are greatly appreciated - just make sure to sign in at the office first!  Also, students are being asked to bring a beach towel to use during our picnic lunch on the field right after the jog-a-thon.  Hot lunch is still available on Friday, and any cold lunchers are encouraged to bring their lunch in a labeled bag that can be thrown away at the end of the picnic. Talk Like A Pirate Day!

What a great day we had!  The kids all looked great in their pirate costumes.  It was a very full day.  A big "Thanks!" to Mrs. Brust for baking the amazing pirate cupcakes with the Jolly Roger flag flying high on them and pirate dust twinkling on the ocean waves.  We added a new activity this year to Talk Like a Pirate Day.  We had a guest speaker join us in the afternoon with 2 of her macaws, one of them highly endangered.  The kids were full of questions, and I know they learned a lot about these amazing birds from the rainforest.  Thank you, parents, for helping make the day special for your child.  Next activity...Making Apple Pie and learning about measurement.

IXL username and password-----> lowercase first and last name followed by 274, 544 and the password is their 6 number birthdate (same as their AR password). They have used it in the computer lab so it should be familiar to them.

A huge "Thank You" to all the parents who participated in Back-to-School Night.  We had a great turnout and hopefully many of your questions were answered.  For those parents curious about IXL, the class list has been updated and is ready to use.  Just 15 minutes a day makes a huge difference in how quickly your child's math skills grow.   We know they have many extracurricular activities, but please make learning a priority!

A quick reminder that this coming Friday, Sept. 16, is Talk Like a Pirate Day!  If your child chooses, they may dress like a pirate for the day.  There's a brand new special event planned for the afternoon.  Thanks for participating...

A Great First Week!

We had a fantastic first week of school! Here are a couple of reminders
as next week begins...

Your child is allowed to bring in a healthy snack each day. We usually have snack at 10:00. Our lunchtime is later this year, at 11:45, and we can sure tell.  Please make sure your child its a good breakfast to keep there tummies filled until snack time.  If you'd like your child to have a snack each day, please send it in.  We did provide a healthy snack this week for the students who did not bring one, but next week we will discontinue that. Also, there is no sharing of snacks due to food allergies.

If you pick up your child every day at school, please be sure they know where you are meeting them. Some parents prefer to park their car in the parent drop-off zone or street and wait there, and others like to wait outside our classroom door.  Either works for us, as long as your child is aware.  Once winter arrives, (I hate to even bring it up) and there is snow on the ground, the sidewalk along the front of the school to get to our classroom is blocked off with caution tape.  You will need to meet your child in the hallway by our classroom door.

Hello!  Welcome to our 2nd grade team!  We are your child's 2nd grade teachers so we thought we should introduce ourselves.  We are Mrs. Thomas and Mrs. Rippingham and we have been teaching together as a team for 12 years.  We can't wait to meet all of you!
